Fall in Florida means that event season is back! In this newsletter, we cover two calls for artists, two grant programs, two new productions opening at our fabulous local theaters, and many other exciting arts events happening this September.

Meeting of the Minds Exhibit at Gallery 201

Gallery 201 at the Brooksville City Hall invites artists to submit 1-3 pieces of artwork created in a collaboration for their upcoming exhibit, Meeting of the Minds. The deadline to submit is October 6.

Art Exhibit at Ever After Gallery

Ever After Gallery is looking for artists interested in exhibiting their artwork at their next gallery showing. The theme for this exhibit is “Pop Culture.” The deadline to submit is September 15.

GRANTS

Apply for one of two grant programs, currently accepting applications for 2024 art projects - www.hernandoarts.org/grants

The deadline to apply for an Arts Council grant is October 6, 2023.

Arts in Education Grant

In partnership with the Hernando County Education Foundation, we offer arts teachers in K-12 classrooms up to $500 for classroom art projects.

Community Arts Grant

We offer local nonprofits up to $1,000 in funding for art-focused events, murals, and other public art projects.

There will be an informative workshop on September 28th at 5:30 PM at the Arts Council office (300 S Main Street) to answer questions about the grant process.

The Laramie Project at Stage West Playhouse

Hernando Arts Fundraiser

Traveling Art Parties is hosting a fundraising event to benefit the Hernando County Fine Arts Council! There will be food trucks, a ticketed painting workshop, and an auction with tons of donated gift certificates and items from various local businesses around Hernando County. Auction tickets are $1!

Guardians of the Garden - A Glass Art Exhibit at Rusted Jade Art Collective

What has the Arts Council been up to since the last newsletter?

Our most recent Art Everywhere match was made at Lowman’s Law Firm! There are now beautiful paintings by local artists, Gary Duquette, Deborah Elaine, and Desiree Kantrim throughout the building. The paintings really transform the office space!

The Art Everywhere initiative was created to pair local businesses with artists whose work will complement their space. Learn more on our website - www.hernandoarts.org/art-everywhere

Last month, we were honored to help Stage West Playhouse with their new initiative to promote local artists during their productions. We are very proud of how their first themed mini-exhibit came together! During their recent production of an original Western, "Blackwood," they had several watercolors on exhibit by local artist, Lyn Bechtel.

Thank you to Stage West for helping us meet our mission to support all of the creative arts here in Hernando County - both visual and performing arts! We are excited to do it again in October :)
