Emilio "Sonny" Vergara officially retired from the Hernando County Fine Arts Council Thursday, July 12, 2018. A gifted professional photographer, Sonny was appointed to the Council February 25, 2014, and served as chair since December 2014. Through his passion for the arts, his success at recruiting Council members, and his clear goal of making Hernando County a vibrant art hub, he has made a lasting impact on the Council and on the arts in Hernando County.
A set of interim officers was elected at the July 12 Arts Council meeting with regular elections scheduled in December. Interim officers are Chair William "Bill" Yerrick, Vice-Chair Beth Putnam, and Secretary Barbara Blavatt. Tina Jarvis continues as Council treasurer. Former Vice Chair Paul Shaskan was given the honorary title of Vice Chair Emeritus in recognition of his more than four years as Council vice chair. Mr. Shaskan will continue as co-coordinator of the Council's Art in the Park Festival held annually the second week of March.
