Lyn Bechtel
ARTIST BIO
I was initially trained as a child at the Chicago Art Institute, then majored in biology and art in college and after graduating went medical school for a master’s degree in Medical Illustration, which I then practiced. Well over a decade later I received a Ph.D. in Old Testament and taught for many years on a graduate level, both in the USA and Britain/Wales. During my years of teaching and scholarly publications my artistic needs were expressed in the creativity of my Old Testament interpretations. With publishing there was no time for painting.
When I retired, I finally returned to my love of watercolor painting and expressing my creativity on a more direct level. My husband and I owned a cottage in the beautiful mountains of north Wales, where I found inspiration in the gorgeous surroundings and where I showed my art for several years. Eventually, when we moved to Homosassa, I began showing here in Florida.
For me, my watercolors are an expression of my passions and emotions and a way of sharing them with others. It is a way of depicting beauty in the mundane of life, which, in turn, makes many of the experiences of life more gratifying. During the pandemic, in particular, my painting has kept me sane. I often find myself painting the places we usually travel but cannot during the crisis – a much cheaper travel alternative.
