To purchase a specialty or "state of the art" license plate in Hernando County, you can follow these steps:

• Visit the Tax Collector's Office: You can purchase specialty license plates at the Hernando County Tax Collector's Office. The main office is located at:

  • 20 North Main St, Room 112, Brooksville, FL 34601

  • Phone: (352) 754-4180

• Initial Registration Fee: Be aware that there is an initial registration fee of approximately $225 if you do not have a license plate to transfer.

• Specialty License Plate Fee: $20 (not including regular registration fees as applicable) per vehicle. The specialty fee of $20 is tax-deductible. For each plate purchased, 100% of the specialty fee for this plate go directly to the Hernando County Fine Arts Council to support the local arts community.

• Required Documents: Make sure to bring necessary documents such as proof of Florida insurance and identification.
